For guests with disabilities, there will be a designated seating section at the Commencement Exercises. If someone in your family needs to sit in this section or requires special assistance, please complete the form to request disability seating. Seating in this section will be by reservation only and special tickets (for up to four guests) will be issued instead of the standard tickets. Please refer to our guest FAQ for more information. Space in this section is limited: please submit your request as soon as possible.
Attending the Investiture of Doctoral Hoods
If someone in your party has accessibility needs, please contact Student Disabilities Services in advance so that we know that you are attending the Hooding Ceremony. Those who will require assistance accessing the venue may be dropped off on the Vassar Street side of the building. Staff with wheelchairs will be on hand to assist you and your party with wheelchair transport from the curb cut to the seating area. If you need a wheelchair for the entire day, please plan to rent one.
The restrooms in the Johnson Athletics Center are wheelchair-accessible.
For more information, please call us at 617-253-1674 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Parking spaces for carriers of a state-issued disability parking placard will be reserved for Hooding Ceremony guests on Vassar Street and in the Kresge parking lot. Spaces for Commencement guests will be available on Memorial Drive. Please note that you must have a state-issued (any state) placard to use this reserved parking.
Commencement guests who hold tickets for the disability seating section but do not have a placard are not eligible to use reserved handicapped spaces. Guests may be dropped off at the entrance to Killian Court on Memorial Drive (recommended for those who are not able to walk from either an MIT or public parking garage, as most parking is more than a block away.) Be sure that if your party splits up, the driver retains a Commencement ticket.
Assistive listening devices for use at the Commencement Exercises and/or Hooding Ceremony may be reserved by contacting the MIT Audio-Visual Services Office. Please call Brian Magoon at 617-253-2809 or email email@example.com by Friday, May 11.
Assistive listening devices are available at the Investiture of Doctoral Hoods.
There will be American Sign Language interpretation of the opening/closing remarks and speeches of the Commencement Exercises and the opening/closing remarks of the Hooding Ceremony.
Live captioning will be available via personal mobile devices and will be displayed on a screen in the Disabilities section on Killian Court. The live captioning text stream will be available via the webcast page shortly before the ceremony begins. For onsite assistance, please ask a Commencement volunteer.
There is a limited number of devices available for loan to view captioning onsite (English only)—please ask at the information tent in the Building 1 courtyard (near the American flag).
