Photos and video
There is no designated area from which guests may take photographs or videotape during either the Hooding or Commencement ceremonies. Guests are requested to keep in mind the experience of all the families present and to remain in their seats until the conclusion of the ceremonies.
Professional photographers (Commencement Photos, Inc.) will take pictures of each graduate at the time of diploma distribution and on exiting the stage at the Commencement Exercises, as well as each recipient of a Doctoral degree hood at the time of presentation at the Hooding Ceremony. Details are available online and information will be mailed directly from Commencement Photos, Inc., in early May. Information for ordering photographs will be sent to Doctoral degree candidates and to the families of the undergraduate degree candidates. If you have questions about the photography, please contact the company by phone 978-851-5924 or email Customerservice@commencementphotos.com.
DVDs of the 2015 Commencement Exercises and Hooding Ceremony are available for online purchase from Academic Media Production Services (AMPS).
Our MIT video professionals use five broadcast-quality video cameras to record the entire event, including the most important part: your graduate's name being announced as his or her MIT degree is presented. You will see the pageantry of academic regalia during the formal Procession and Recession, as well as the degree conferrals and Commencement address.
Candidates for the PhD and ScD receive their hoods in a separate ceremony on June 4. Our professional DVD will include the Procession, the addresses by Chancellor Cynthia Barnhart and our guest speaker, astronaut and alumnus Mike Massimino, the name of each candidate being read, and a close-up view as the hood is invested. The best way to capture this day of extraordinary scholarly achievement is through the 2015 Investiture of Doctoral Hoods DVD.
