As plans are made for Commencement 2021 and the in-person celebration for the graduates of 2020, those details will populate throughout this site. In the meantime, please review the available information at the COVID-19 and Commencement plans page. Thank you.

Thank you for visiting the Commencement website. We hope that these pages answer any questions you have about MIT’s most important annual events, but if not, please email Institute Events.

We recommend that community members remain alert to the campus changes information below for updates about parking changes, garage and road closures, and building access issues during Commencement week.

We would never be able to pull off beautiful graduation ceremonies without the help of the MIT community—and we have volunteer opportunities every year! Potential volunteers should note that the MIT senior administration both supports and encourages staff participation in Commencement and that your supervisor can answer payroll-related questions about volunteering. Each year, hundreds of staff and students volunteer their time to make this special occasion great for the graduates and their families. Thank you! It makes all the difference.

Volunteer

We appreciate your interest in working with us during Commencement week: volunteers are vital to the ceremonies’ success. We give directions, answer questions, make conversation with guests, and help them solve problems. Information about volunteer opportunities will be posted in these pages and emailed directly to staff. Watch your inbox—and thank you!

Campus changes
